Montgomery Ward / Mossberg

About Montgomery Ward / Mossberg

Montgomery Ward (Wards) commissioned O.F. Mossberg & Sons to manufacture various firearms, which were then sold under Montgomery Ward's in-house Western Field brand. These firearms, often sold through the Montgomery Ward catalog, represent a collaboration where Mossberg produced the guns for the department store to brand and sell, resulting in a variety of Mossberg-made, Ward-branded firearms. Western Field was Montgomery Ward's private-label brand for firearms.

Example Models Wards

  • Western Field Model 46A: A .22 long rifle bolt-action rifle that is essentially a Mossberg Model 42A.
  • New Haven 600: A series of pump-action shotguns originally made by Mossberg for department stores, including Montgomery Ward.
  • Western Field Model 550BB: A 16-gauge pump shotgun made by Mossberg for Montgomery Ward in the early 1970s, similar to the Mossberg 500.
